The Dance Department at Anne Arundel Community College is a learning community which prides itself in offering a variety of styles and techniques taught by accomplished professional instructors/professors, choreographers and guests.
Students may earn an A.A. in Fine Arts with a concentration in Dance. The degree program requires a minimum of 60 credit hours and prepares students to transfer to four-year institutions, enter the workforce, or simply enhance knowledge and skills in dance. Courses currently offered include: ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, tap, dance history, dance production (choreography and composition), improvisation, and dance repertory. Performance opportunities are available through the AACC Dance Company, by audition only.
About the Program
The Dance Department boasts class sizes of no more than 20 students, allowing for ample individual attention. In addition to the regular faculty, the Dance Department hosts guest choreographers (for the Dance Company) and master instructors annually. Past guest artists include: Ailey II dancer: Nate Hunt, former Twyla Tharp dancer and Tony nominated choreographer, John Carrafa, Michael Foley, Claire Porter, Gabriel Masson, Keigwin & Company member:Emily Schoen, Alvin Mayes, former Doug Varone dancer: Adrianne Fang, and Vincent Thomas. There are four dance studios on the main campus; all house state-of-the-art equipment.
